Love with Food snack boxes

2014-07-07 18.27.00

I would not consider myself to be a snacker, in general. I like defined meals, with maybe a snack here and there if I’m starving and know the next meal is going to be far, far in the future. I also fall under the “out of sight, out of mind” category of people; if something is on the counter, I’ll nibble at it every time I pass through the kitchen. Once it’s in the pantry, though, it may as well have fallen into a black hole.

So, when I heard about Love with Food, a subscription snack box, I was hesitant. I already get Graze snack boxes, but I’m also intrigued by monthly boxes showing up in the mail bearing tasty gifts. So, I requested a box to review and then one appeared to me (if only there were forms for everything in life!)

Blogging for Books – Crap Taxidermy

If you’ve been to our house in the last few years, and entered through the front door, you would have been greeted by a raccoon mounted on the wall, along with a couple of fluffy squirrels. Some flea market deer and antelope mounts would be gazing at you from across the room. Plus, a couple of piñata heads.

I’m going to go ahead and blame it all on Disney and the now-defunct Country Bear Jamboree for my love of taxidermy animals. The talking mounted heads of Melvin Moose, Max Deer, and Buff Buffalo would introduce the Country Bears and engage in entertaining banter. I always wanted one for my house; in fact, I still would love a gorgeous moose mounted above our fireplace. [Fun fact: if you go on the Winnie-the-Pooh ride at Disneyland, after you go through the heffalump and woozle dream room, if you turn around and look up, you can see the moose, deer, and buffalo heads hanging above the archway!]

PSA – Butter Dish

We don’t really do a lot of Public Service Announcements here on 3DK, but every now and then something Very Important pops up and I feel an intense need to share it with the world. That need, after all, is why the blog was invented, right?

Are you aware that there is a difference between East Coast butter and West Coast butter? I wasn’t really, until we started looking for a butter dish. Something to store half a stick of butter in the fridge, a dish to leave on the counter on Sunday mornings for softened butter without making a greasy mess. My knowledge of butter consisted of salted vs. unsalted and quarters vs. full pound blocks (thanks, Costco!)

And then we bought a butter dish.

organicgirl greens

Disclosure: Our meal was complimentary but I was not compensated for this review. As always, all opinions are my own.

We’ve been going through a lot of greens lately – for smoothies, juices, sautees, etc.  So, when Jen from BAM Communications mentioned organicgirl salad products, I was intrigued.  A little while later, a box arrived on our porch with romaine hearts, baby spring mix, and supergreens.

Each container has a plastic hard cover, but it’s also sealed with plastic on top.  Until you unseal it, the greens stay fresh (and pre-washed!) for quite a while, but the plastic top means that if you don’t use it all, you can easily keep it stored in the fridge.

Hak’s BBQ Sauce – Chipotle Bourbon

Disclosure: I was sent a bottle of Hak’s BBQ Sauce to review by Duo Public Relations but was not compensated for my review. As always, all opinions are mine.

Chef Sharone Hakman came to San Diego during the Gourmet Experience in Del Mar to promote his sauce and do some cooking demonstrations. I was offered a ticket to the Gourmet Experience, but had to decline since we were going to be out of town. But, I did accept a bottle of his bbq sauce to try. I am not really a bbq sauce connoisseur, but Travis is. He loves finding new sauces, trying different ones, and I’m pretty sure he’s always on the search for the perfect sauce.
