Or is it Two-Thousand-Eleven? Either way, Happy New Year!
I am not a very good Asian, what with me blatantly disregarding all the traditions that are supposed to bring us luck. I’m not even sure I know about all the traditions we’re supposed to do. I do know that I didn’t make that stew with potato, konyaku, fishcake, and gobo root that’s supposed to bring you luck. Or long life. Or maybe wealth? Hmm… maybe that’s why we didn’t with the Mega Jackpot.
Travis and I did eat soba noodles… for long life? Right next to toasted roast beef sandwiches (sliced from leftover prime rib). I was going to make mochi on New Year’s Day (I have no idea why this is lucky), except I never got to the market to buy mochi and then when I opened my box of Mochiko there were tiny little bugs in it. Eww.
We did toast the new year with friends and champagne, then journeyed out into the “cold” with pots and spoons. I’m sure that must bring us luck, right?
No resolutions for me… just a general desire to stay healthy and fit, enjoy my new cookbooks, and get through the next few months of wedding craziness. It’s exciting, daunting, and expensive all at the same time. Although, not really stressful. Maybe because the important things have been set already, so if anything else doesn’t get done, it’s not really that big of a deal. There are a lot of things I want to have at our wedding and a part of me feels like it’s worth it. Not because it’s our wedding and we’re worth it (but we are), but because this wedding (this marriage?) has been 6 years in the making and after waiting this long, I want to have a super-spectacular party. I’ve also gotten into the groove of deciding what I want (with some consultation and agreement from Travis, of course) and not caring if it goes with the “theme, the decor, tradition, what other people might think, or if it turns our wedding into part-castle, part-luau, part-County Fair. Even if just 20 people show up, it’s going to be awesome.
I hope your 2010 was good to you and that 2011 will be even nicer. I hope 2011 slows down just a tad, as this last year seems to have flown by at super speed. I hope for the best year ever.
