home remedies

I came home from work early because I somehow managed to catch whatever germs Travis has been harboring.  Actually, I only went into the office to do two things that needed to get out today.  I’m usually really good about avoiding other people’s colds – I wash my hands a lot, I take a lot of vitamin C, and no sharing of anything.  I’m not sure what happened this time.  But, I hate being sick.  It”s just annoying to me.  I’m not sick enough to be incapacitated, but I just don’t feel at the top of my game.  My throat is sore and my ears keep getting clogged.  And I have really weird dreams, which means I don’t sleep well.

Being sick is just really, really, lame.

So far, I’ve been downing Emergen-C, making honey lemon tea with ginger, and taking Advil.  I’ve been drinking lots of water, juice, and tea (and peeing an awful lot) and eating my fair share of peanut butter toast.

What do you do when you’re sick?

  1. I eat sizzling rice soup when I’m feeling under the weather. The broth is clear but it has a bit of substance. I just don’t like eating when I’m sick. I also love melted cheese on Triscuits.

I hope you feel better soon. Being sick in the summer is no fun.

  2. I like to eat Pho when I’m sick – at least, I like to drink the hot broth and try to eat anything else in the bowl. I’m a believer of Zicam and I take it at the first sign of a cold and I take Airborne – it seems to work for me about 75% of the time. I also watch Star Wars when I’m sick… I picked up that habit in college. Hope you feel better soon!

  3. All of what you do plus stay in bed for at least 1 day.

    • If I’m sick during the week, I try to take at least one day off and spend as much time in bed as I can stand. It works better than trying to power through and I think it gets me on my feet faster. Plus, I don’t see any reason to stay at work spreading germs to people if I don’t have to!

  4. BOOZE! I actually like to bring chicken bouillon cubes to work, so I can alternate between cups of hot tea and hot broth. I spike the broth with Tabasco sauce, too. Soothes the sore throat and is hopefully burning away the bugs. Sorry you couldn’t avoid T’s sickness.

    • Ha ha! I am not a boozer… I think drinking while sick would make my head feel even more out of whack. But that’s a good idea about bouillon cubes… a nice, hot broth to sip on. This round I’ve been trying to burn the germs with lots of lemon juice and ginger. It seems to help!
