I feel compelled to note that my restaurant of choice for Peking Duck is Golden City in Kearny Mesa. I don’t know why we don’t get charged the menu price of $18 (it’s always $20-something) but it’s still an awesome bargain for a whole lot of duck. Their buns of soft and warm, the duck skin is crisp and fatty, and the lettuce cups are very tasty. We always leave full.
Recently we went to China Max to try their Peking Duck. It’s $33 for the two courses (buns and lettuce cups) and they assemble the crispy skin buns for you. It was good, but not so marvelously better than Golden City to warrant more money. Plus, I swear I was still hungry after eating and we had bacon shrimp rolls and hot and sour soup, too.
I have heard good things about the Peking duck at Pearl in Rancho Bernardo, but the menu says it’s $36. I hear rumors that if it’s a daily special it’s only $18, so that might be worth checking out. But, until then, we’ll be at Golden City enjoying our bargain duck.
I just thought you should know.
I’m pretty sure the Golden City one is $18 if you want your second course to just be chopped up duck. We pay the extra couple of bucks to get the lettuce cups and shrimp chips. 🙂 Yum!
