Garden tomatoes

Aren’t these pretty? Looking at them, you’d think that they aren’t quite ripe, because they aren’t fully red. But they are! The plant was a random one I picked up at Wal-Mart one day and stuck in the ground, in case my started-from-seed tomato plants didn’t take (they kind of sort of didn’t). I think it’s called Mr. Stripey or some funny name to imply it’s not a straight red tomato. It may be an heirloom, but I can’t promise that. As pretty as they are plucked off the vine (with minor exterior imperfections), the inside is just downright beautiful.

See the red and yellow and orange? Oh, and it tastes just as good as it looks. Firm but sweet, it’s tomato flavor brought out by a light sprinkling of good salt. That’s how we ate two of them today as an afternoon snack. I can’t wait for the rest on the vine to hurry up and ripen!
